Season 4.19 "In Dreams" Air date: 5/11/05

returns, this time he steals an orchid thought to be extinct from a Rambaldi monastery. The orchid's nectar has possibly some
grave repercussions for humanity, and some shocking secrets are revealed about the real Arvin Sloane.
Comments:
Although one would assume the stellar acting from Ron Rifkin, along with Joel Grey's delightfully creepy Arvin Cloane, and
the pure treat of seeing Amy Irving reprise her role as Emily Sloane would automatically merit this episode a rating
of 10.
However I cannot give it a full 10 because there are some plot flaws in the episode's writing. But having said that,
this episode does manage to turn my perception of the real Arvin Sloane on its head, and it showed me that he was
once a good man who caught got up in the evil net of Rambaldi.

Comments:
Oh my gosh - I have just fallen in love with Marshall this season! I mean I have always liked
his character from the moment we meet him in Truth Be Told but it wasn't until this season started that I started
to totally love him!
Let me end with saying that the interactions between Jack and Marshall this season have been priceless, absolutely priceless!

Comments:
This episode, as well as its predecessor, is Alias at its best!
First of all, I had forgotten what a hoot these two episodes - oh gosh Sydney, Jack, and Irina all
on a mission together! There were many times during the course of this episode I was ROTFLMHO mostly because I see so clearly
where Sydney gets her stubborn streak - from both of her parents! I also enjoyed it because clearly
Irina was enjoying herself way too much at Jack's expense and honestly he was making himself an awfully easy
target by biting the bait she was providing, lol! I think I laughed hardest when Irina had an opportunity to say a well-deserved
I told you so to Jack but wisely kept her mouth shut (i.e. over the truck stalling that they were riding in to the
prison in Kashmir).
Other classic Alias moments in this episode includes the brief time Sydney had to stop to attend to a
mildly bad scratch on her leg (that she got when they were ambushed by the PRF) and to see how her parents act here
made me wonder if they react like this when their very grown daughter has such a minor injury, then how in the
world did they react when she was a little girl? It also solved the question of whether or nor Irina really does love Sydney,
at least it does for me. After watching her in this scene I am forever convinced that Irina does indeed love her
daughter and like Jack, she would do anything she has to protect Sydney.
Now I still have issues as to whether or not Irina really loves Jack or if she has at any point ever
loved him at all but then I digress...
The Bristows take another train ride, and this time there's awkward silence between them, They're all taking the opportunity
to eat something, and we see Jack shares some sort of alcoholic drink with Irina that they clearly found in the compartments
cargo containers. Jack looks at Irina and says, "I know what you're thinking
Yet another moment I love is when they reach Jack's contact because this becomes another moment of evidence that Jack
is very proud of Sydney as his contact-friend makes it clears that Jack has indeed bragged about her to him. *g*
I also love this moment because of the disguises they're given (they go with a native Indian look) and also the fact Irina
tries to warn Jack that the truck the contact has provide won't get them all the way to their destination.

Season 2.8 "Passage, Part I"
Air date: 12/1/02

Comments:
This episode and its sequel is Alias at its best!
Classic Alias moments include Jack giving Irina C4 laced necklace and telling her if at any
time he believes she's betraying them, he'll blow off her head himself.
Then Jack, Irina, and Sydney all posing as a family passing through a train station to tour the Kashmir region. In
the train station Syd acts like a total rich airhead brat and Irina has an opportunity to plant a kiss on Jack's lips
that stuns him. Another moment comes when the Bristows have to parachute from a high speeding train into enemy territory,
and the question of who goes first causes a nearly endless debate between Jack and Irina, which is solved by Sydney
telling her parents to "Shutup!" before she jumps from the train. Jack then has some satisfaction I am sure when he gets to
throw Irina from the train after Sydney before he jumps himself, lol!
Also another thing I love about these episodes (aside from the Bristows kicking enemy butt together as a *ahem* family)
is that apparently Jack does indeed have some friends who seem to respect him greatly, and also it appears SpyDaddy
has done a lot of bragging to the aforementioned friends about his daughter. *g*
The episode ends in a blaze of glory as the Bristows are ambushed by the People's Revoluntionary Front (or the ones
with the nuclear warheads) and their guide is killed. The PRF knows that they're CIA operatives, and it appears that
they're about to kill them when Irina removes her C4 laced necklace, and hurls to their jeep. Jack hits the necklace's detonator,
and the explosion gives them enough of an advantage. One hightlight of the scene comes here when we see Jack, Sydney, and Irina
all standing side by side, armed with serious guns, all firing with a rage, taking out the rest of the PFR operatives.
And what a moment to see them walk off together into the night determined to continue on with the mission even if
the enemy does know they're there.

Comments: This episode is the pilot for the series Alias and it is one of the most well-written
television pilots I have ever watched. From the first second when see Sydney being tortured in Taipei until the very last
moment we watch her watch her father walk away (a man she hardly knows at this point), this is compelling television
at its finest.
